I John 4:14 “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”
There are two actions going on here in this verse. First you have to experience the salvation of God in your own life. You have to see what God did for you and you have to see that you have fallen short of God’s standard. There is nothing better than experiencing salvation in your own heart and life.
This reminds me of another verse in the Bible, taste and see that the Lord is good. We cannot comprehend the greatest of God in our lives but what we can do is accept what he did for us on the cross… I hope you have done that this morning… If you have I want you to focus on the next action of this verse. And we have seen and DO TESTIFY.
We as a church have one supreme task, and that is to take the message of the gospel to all the world. To testify to the world that even in their sin God loves them, that he paid for that sin on Calvary, and that they can repent of their sin, and be saved. We have that which is of more value than all the wealth which the world possesses. We have the plan of salvation.
Testifying of the Saviour of the world is the best way to show our love to God and love for our neighbor. “Missions is not for the hyperactive Christians in the church. Missions is the purpose of the church” We cannot love God and love our neighbor without testifying to them the wonderful news of salvation.
I want to draw your attention to the words of a song that we have in our hymn book.
God forgave my sin in Jesus' name
I've been born again in Jesus' name
And in Jesus' name I come to you
To share His love as He told me to
He said freely freely
You have received
Freely freely give
Go in My name
And because you believe
Others will know that I live
That is your mission, my brothers and sisters in Christ, that is your responsibility. Freely you have received and our Heavenly Father will expect you freely to share with others these glorious truths. David Brainerd said, “Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to the rough, the savage pagans of the wilderness; send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in Thy service, and to promote Thy kingdom."
Have you seen? Are you testifying?
